Driving Simulation
Driving simulation is used for training and testing, and IDT is involved in both areas.
In vehicle development, realizing an appropriate transfer between the information gathered in a simulator and applying this information to reality is particularly difficult when there is a human in the loop. Selecting the required properties of the simulator is therefore a major challenge, as these can often drive the cost significantly. IDT has developed a systematic manner by which the simulator fidelity requirements can be categorized and specified. We are also involved in the validation of driving simulators in order to identify their true performance.
In driver training, there are few (if any) regulations dictating the use of simulators. Hence, the challenge is to provide cost-effective training that is also recognized as being beneficial to the candidate driver. IDT is involved in specifying and, in some cases, developing the key technology areas of driving simulation.
In driving simulation, our customers include car manufacturers and research institutes.
